About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a rapidly growing owner and operator of data centers. The business is expanding its footprint across Australia and is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to help deliver large-scale, mission-critical facilities.

This is a client-side role where you'll play a key part throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept design and technical reviews through construction, commissioning, and operational handover. You'll work alongside internal engineering teams, consultants, contractors, and equipment vendors to deliver highly resilient, energy-efficient data center infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design and technical delivery of mission-critical data center projects.

  • Review and coordinate consultant designs to ensure compliance with technical standards, performance requirements, and operational objectives.

  • Manage mechanical systems through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.

  • Provide technical expertise across:

    • HVAC and critical cooling systems

    • Chilled water and condenser water systems

    • CRAH/CRAC units

    • Cooling towers

    • Direct and liquid cooling technologies

    • Pumps, pipework, valves, and associated mechanical plant

  • Work closely with construction and commissioning teams to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Review equipment selections, technical submissions, and commissioning documentation.

  • Drive continuous improvements in engineering standards, resilience, and energy efficiency.

  • Support capacity planning and future expansion of data center facilities.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across projects.

About You

You'll be an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background delivering mission-critical or complex building services projects.

Ideally you'll have:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 8+ years' experience within data centers, mission-critical facilities, healthcare, industrial, or large-scale commercial projects.

  • Strong knowledge of critical mechanical infrastructure and cooling systems.

  • Experience working through detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases.

  • Ability to manage consultants, contractors, and multiple stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication and project coordination skills.

  • Experience working client-side or with leading engineering consultancies or contractors is highly desirable.
