Mechanical Commissioning Engineer - North Virginia location - Contract to hire - $60 - $90 per hour - all inclusive rate
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to oversee the commissioning of mechanical systems within a data center environment. The role involves ensuring the successful testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems to meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. You will play a crucial role in validating the functionality and safety of systems that support the critical operations of the data center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the commissioning process for mechanical systems within the data center, including HVAC systems, cooling systems, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
- Conduct inspections, functional tests, and system verifications to ensure mechanical systems are installed and operating per project specifications and industry standards.
- Perform thorough diagnostics on mechanical systems, identifying and resolving any issues, discrepancies, or inefficiencies.
- Develop and execute detailed test plans and commissioning reports.
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with OSHA regulations, safety standards, and relevant codes.
- Adhere to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and confined space entry protocols, when applicable.
- Maintain comprehensive commissioning records, including inspection logs, test results, and reports.
- Provide documentation to verify that mechanical systems meet design specifications, operational requirements, and compliance standards.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, mechanical contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure timely and budget-compliant commissioning.
- Communicate commissioning progress, challenges, and resolutions to project stakeholders effectively.
- Provide ongoing support post-commissioning, including troubleshooting and resolving operational issues that arise with mechanical systems.
- Mentor and train junior engineers, technicians, and other team members on commissioning processes, safety practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience with mechanical systems in a data center environment, including HVAC, cooling, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
- OSHA 10 Construction Certification required
- RFPA 70 Certification required
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes related to mechanical systems in data centers.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
