Job Description
We are seeking an experienced BAS / EPMS Design Engineer to join our engineering team and support the design and delivery of advanced Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) across the United States.
This is a remote U.S.-based position with approximately 20% travel to customer sites, project locations, design meetings, commissioning activities, and factory/site acceptance testing.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in BAS, EPMS, controls engineering, electrical monitoring, system integration, and engineering design documentation, with the ability to take projects from concept and detailed design through commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer BAS and EPMS systems for commercial, industrial, data center, and mission-critical facilities.
- Develop system architectures, control strategies, network diagrams, points lists, sequences of operation, and functional specifications.
- Produce and review BAS/EPMS engineering drawings, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation.
- Design integration between HVAC systems, electrical distribution equipment, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, meters, and other facility systems.
- Define system I/O requirements, controllers, field devices, communication interfaces, and network architecture.
- Develop detailed engineering documentation for installation, programming, commissioning, and project handover.
- Coordinate BAS/EPMS design with mechanical, electrical, networking, cybersecurity, architectural, and construction disciplines.
- Review vendor submittals, equipment documentation, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Participate in design reviews with customers, consultants, contractors, and internal engineering teams.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and integrated systems testing.
- Troubleshoot design, controls, communication, and integration issues during project execution.
- Support project teams with technical solutions, engineering changes, and field modifications.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements and quality standards.
- Assist with developing engineering standards, templates, libraries, and best practices.
- Provide technical support to controls technicians, programmers, project managers, and commissioning teams.
BAS Engineering Responsibilities
- Develop BAS/DDC system architectures and control strategies.
- Design HVAC control sequences for AHUs, RTUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, and other mechanical equipment.
- Develop BAS points lists, alarm requirements, trend requirements, schedules, graphics requirements, and control narratives.
- Design and review BAS integration using BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and other applicable protocols.
- Support BAS supervisory and front-end system design.
- Review graphics and operator-interface requirements.
- Support optimization and integration of HVAC and facility systems.
EPMS Engineering Responsibilities
- Design EPMS architectures for critical electrical infrastructure.
- Develop monitoring requirements for switchgear, generators, UPS systems, ATS systems, PDUs, electrical meters, and other power equipment.
- Develop EPMS points lists, monitoring requirements, alarm strategies, trends, and reporting requirements.
- Design integration using Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, OPC, and vendor-specific communication protocols.
- Coordinate EPMS requirements with electrical engineers, equipment manufacturers, and controls teams.
- Support electrical monitoring and energy-management applications.
- Participate in EPMS commissioning and integrated systems testing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in BAS, EPMS, controls, automation, electrical monitoring, or building systems engineering.
- Experience designing BAS and/or EPMS systems.
- Strong understanding of HVAC controls and/or electrical power monitoring systems.
- Experience developing engineering drawings, system architectures, sequences of operation, points lists, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of BACnet and Modbus.
- Understanding of IP networking and control-system communications.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, and equipment documentation.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote engineering environment.
- Ability to travel approximately 20% within the United States.
