Controls Commissioning Engineer - Fulfilment Centre Go-Live

Location: Pueblo, Colorado
Contract: Contract / Contractor
Start: ASAP / Immediate
Initial Duration: 18 August 2026 – 18 September 2026 - Possible extension to other sites
Working Pattern: 24/7 operational support / shift-based / Loads of overtime available
Industry: Warehouse Automation / Material Handling / Fulfilment

The Opportunity

We are looking for experienced Controls Commissioning Engineers to support the go-live and operational ramp-up of a large-scale automated fulfilment centre in Colorado.

The project is moving into its live operational phase, and additional controls expertise is required to support system stabilisation, troubleshooting and performance during the initial ramp-up period.

This is a highly hands-on site role suited to engineers with experience commissioning and troubleshooting conveyors, material handling systems and automated warehouse equipment in live or high-volume distribution environments.

There is also the potential for further contract extensions and opportunities to support additional automation projects at other sites following the initial assignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on controls and automation support throughout the go-live and ramp-up period.

  • Troubleshoot PLC, controls and automation issues across the material handling system.

  • Diagnose and resolve conveyor, tracking, sensor, drive and control-system faults.

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of automated conveyor and material handling equipment.

  • Work alongside controls engineers, technicians, operations and maintenance teams to identify and resolve issues.

  • Monitor system performance during live operations and assist with stabilisation.

  • Investigate recurring faults and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Support testing, commissioning and final system optimisation where required.

  • Assist with troubleshooting conveyor belt tracking and related mechanical/controls issues.

  • Provide rapid response to operational issues during periods of high system utilisation.

  • Document faults, resolutions and outstanding issues.

  • Escalate complex technical issues to the appropriate project or engineering team.

  • Support the wider project team during the transition from commissioning into full operational production.

Required Experience

  • Proven experience as a Controls Engineer, Controls Commissioning Engineer, Automation Engineer or PLC Engineer.

  • Strong hands-on experience with PLC-controlled material handling systems.

  • Experience working with conveyors and automated warehouse/distribution systems.

  • Previous experience supporting commissioning, go-live, ramp-up or stabilisation of automated facilities.

  • Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding ability.

  • Experience working in live operational environments where rapid resolution of controls issues is critical.

  • Ability to work independently on site and communicate effectively with wider engineering and operations teams.

  • Comfortable working shifts and supporting a 24/7 operational environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Hytrol or similar conveyor systems.

  • Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLC experience.

  • Experience with VFDs, sensors, scanners, photoeyes and conveyor control systems.

  • Experience within fulfilment centres, distribution centres, warehouses, parcel hubs or other material handling environments.

  • Previous experience supporting large-scale automated logistics projects through go-live.

  • Experience troubleshooting conveyor belt tracking and material flow issues.

Overtime & Contract Opportunity

There is significant overtime available throughout the project, with engineers able to work as much overtime as they want, subject to site/project requirements.

The initial requirement is through September 2026, with the potential for:

  • Contract extensions beyond the initial assignment

  • Continued support during the post-go-live phase

  • Opportunities to move onto additional automation projects at other sites

  • Potential for a longer-term pipeline of contract work

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on controls/commissioning engineer who is comfortable working on the floor during a live go-live environment.

You should be confident troubleshooting problems under pressure, working directly with site teams and getting automated material handling equipment back into operation quickly.

Previous warehouse automation, distribution centre, material handling or conveyor commissioning experience is highly desirable.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced controls/commissioning contractor looking for high levels of overtime, immediate site work and the potential for longer-term opportunities across multiple automation projects.
