Senior Hardware Engineer (Controls & FPGA)

Location: Santa Barbara, CA | On-site/Hybrid

Salary: $210k - $230k + equity

About the Role

An innovative photonics startup is looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to own the architecture and validation of high-speed optical control systems. You'll have real technical ownership and direct influence over how the controls team operates and scales.

Required Skills & Experience

• High-speed closed-loop control design
• FPGA-based real-time control
• Strong control theory fundamentals: PID, Bode, phase margin, loop bandwidth
• Mixed-signal systems: ADCs, DACs, quantisation noise, timing constraints
• Hardware test & de-bugging
• Strong written and verbal communication

Beneficial Skills & Experience

• Coherent optical, PIC, or RF systems background
• Prior leadership experience in small, cross-functional teams
• Startup environment experience
