Job Description
Senior Systems Developer (Rust / HPC) - Indefinite CONTRACT
Location: Netherlands or Germany (Remote Friendly)
Type: Full-time
About the Role
Edison Smart are working with a client who are building an independent, energy-efficient AI infrastructure — a full-stack ecosystem designed for true reasoning, privacy, and sustainability.Their compute engine powers next-generation AI models using up to 96% less energy than traditional GPU-based systems, through a radically efficient binary computation platform.
This is a small, highly technical team that builds from first principles — combining systems programming, compiler design, and high-performance computing to redefine what’s possible in AI infrastructure.
The Opportunity
As Senior Systems Developer (Rust / HPC), you’ll work directly with the Principal Systems Engineer to advance the Core Compute Engine — the foundation that underpins all AI systems.
You’ll design and implement high-performance primitives, optimize algorithms across CPU, GPU, and FPGA backends, and benchmark every cycle until we’ve extracted every possible nanosecond of performance.
This role offers deep technical mentorship and real ownership. You’ll be one of only three engineers with full insight into the compute core — building real systems, not abstractions.
Key Responsibilities
-
Implement new binary computation primitives across CPU, GPU, and FPGA targets.
-
Extend and optimize a library of 1,900+ hardware-tuned algorithms.
-
Develop and maintain a BitOps compiler, enabling multi-backend optimization.
-
Write precise, data-driven benchmarks for every optimization and hardware path.
-
Collaborate closely on architecture, performance, and design decisions.
-
Push the limits of what Rust and modern hardware can achieve.
Requirements
-
Strong Rust expertise and proven ability in low-level systems programming — you write code that’s both fast and correct.
-
Experience with SIMD, GPU kernels, or hardware acceleration, or a deep willingness to learn.
-
Solid understanding of computer architecture, memory hierarchies, and performance profiling.
-
Passion for optimization — you’re the kind of engineer who can’t resist squeezing out extra nanoseconds.
-
Fluency in English (Dutch or German is a plus).
-
No degree required — demonstrated skill and curiosity matter most.
