Job Description

The Head of Engineering – Japan is responsible for leading and managing the local technical support and engineering team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, solution-oriented technical services to customers and partners. This role combines technical expertise with strategic leadership, driving engineering initiatives that align with regional business objectives and support overall growth.

You will oversee the execution of technical projects, pre-sales support, product demonstrations, proof of concept (PoC) engagements, and complex solution design. Collaborating closely with sales, product, and engineering teams, you will ensure that customer needs are fully understood and addressed through innovative, reliable solutions.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

  • Lead, develop, and manage the local engineering and pre-sales technical support team.

  • Define and implement technical strategies that align with regional business goals.

  • Set team KPIs, objectives, and performance standards.

  • Plan and manage team resources and budgets.

  • Mentor and upskill team members to maintain high technical standards.

Technical Operations

  • Oversee all technical support and engineering activities, ensuring solutions meet customer and business requirements.

  • Collaborate with regional teams and product groups on complex or large-scale projects.

  • Review and approve technical designs and proposals.

  • Manage escalations and critical technical issues.

  • Establish and maintain engineering processes, methodologies, and standards.

Business Development Support

  • Work with sales leadership on strategic opportunities and high-value projects.

  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client engagements.

  • Influence product roadmap and engineering strategy based on customer feedback and market trends.

  • Support account management by providing technical guidance to consultants, partners, and key clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field.

  • 8–12 years of relevant experience with a strong technical background in power, thermal, or data center solutions.

  • Solid knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, data center infrastructure, and critical power solutions.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices.

  • Proficient in MS Office and engineering tools such as AutoCAD.

  • Demonstrated ability in strategic planning and execution of technical initiatives.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams.
