About the Role

We are working with a specialist building performance and engineering consultancy in the Greater Toronto Area that is looking to hire a Building Automation & Energy Engineer to support its continued growth.

This is an opportunity to work on a range of building automation, energy optimization and building performance projects, helping clients improve energy efficiency, system performance and overall building operations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in building automation and HVAC controls, with an interest in energy management, commissioning and optimizing building systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, assess and optimize building automation and control systems across commercial and institutional buildings.

  • Analyse building energy consumption and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

  • Review HVAC systems, sequences of operation, control strategies and building performance data.

  • Support building commissioning, functional testing, troubleshooting and verification of system performance.

  • Conduct building assessments, energy audits and technical investigations to identify operational inefficiencies.

  • Develop recommendations for improving building performance, sustainability and energy management.

  • Work with clients, contractors, consultants and other engineering professionals to deliver technical solutions.

  • Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation and recommendations for clients.

  • Support the integration of building automation systems with energy monitoring and analytics platforms.

About You

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Systems Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Experience in building automation, HVAC controls, energy engineering or building performance.

  • Understanding of BMS/BAS architecture, HVAC control sequences and building mechanical systems.

  • Experience with building commissioning, energy analysis, system optimization or controls troubleshooting.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and project teams.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or working towards it, would be an advantage.

  • Experience with energy modelling, building analytics or sustainability standards would also be beneficial.
