Job Description

Edison Smart is supporting a global FinTech business building technology that powers payments and financial services across international markets.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a highly technical engineering environment, building scalable, distributed systems that process high volumes of financial transactions globally.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex backend problems, designing scalable APIs and building reliable systems where performance, security and availability are critical.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and build scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Develop high-performance APIs and microservices supporting global financial products.
  • Design and operate distributed systems processing high volumes of transactions.
  • Build reliable integrations with internal and external services.
  • Work with SQL and NoSQL databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
  • Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions across the platform.
  • Build internal tooling and applications using React where required.
  • Work within AWS-based cloud environments.
  • Deploy and operate containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure automation and Terraform environments.
  • Improve system performance, scalability, reliability and security.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of commercial Software Engineering experience.
  • Strong Node.js and TypeScript experience.
  • Strong understanding of backend engineering, APIs and microservices.
  • Experience designing and building distributed systems at scale.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud-native application development.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Good understanding of CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.
  • Knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure-as-code is highly desirable.
  • Python or Go experience would be advantageous.
  • React experience would be beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of SOLID principles, software architecture and common design patterns.
  • Experience within FinTech, Payments, Banking or another high-volume transactional environment would be highly desirable.
