Senior Design Manager – Data Centres

Location: Melbourne or Sydney

A leading data centre developer and operator is looking for a Senior Design Manager to join its growing project delivery team in Australia.

This is a senior position responsible for leading the design process across major data centre developments, working closely with internal project teams, consultants, contractors and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered to the required technical, commercial and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process across large-scale data centre projects from concept through to construction and handover.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams across electrical, mechanical, structural, architectural and specialist systems.

• Manage external consultants, design contractors and engineering stakeholders.

• Review and challenge designs to ensure they meet project requirements, technical standards, programme and commercial objectives.

• Identify and resolve design issues, risks and interfaces throughout the project lifecycle.

• Work closely with Project Directors, Construction Managers and other senior stakeholders to maintain design and delivery alignment.

• Manage design changes, technical submissions, RFIs and design approvals.

• Support value engineering and design optimisation initiatives.

• Provide leadership and guidance to junior Design Managers and project team members.

About You

• Proven experience in a Design Management role within data centres, mission-critical, industrial, commercial or similarly complex infrastructure projects.

• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary building services and the interfaces between engineering disciplines.

• Experience managing consultants, contractors and complex design packages.

• Comfortable working across the full project lifecycle from early design through construction.

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

• Ability to identify design risks and drive solutions through to resolution.

• Experience working on large-scale or technically complex projects is highly desirable.

• Data centre experience is preferred but candidates from other mission-critical or complex infrastructure sectors may also be considered.
