About the Opportunity

An established specialist commissioning consultancy is expanding its Melbourne team and is looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer to take ownership of electrical testing, commissioning and project delivery across major infrastructure projects.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership position suited to an experienced electrical commissioning professional who can operate independently, manage contractors and vendors, and provide strong technical oversight throughout the commissioning lifecycle.

The organisation is growing its commissioning capability across Victoria and is building a strong pipeline of work across major data centre, infrastructure and mission-critical projects.

The Role

As Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and managing electrical commissioning activities from planning through to final handover.

You will work closely with clients, contractors, vendors and project teams to ensure systems are tested, commissioned and handed over safely and to the required technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical testing and commissioning activities across major projects.

  • Develop and manage commissioning strategies, plans, procedures and schedules.

  • Provide technical leadership throughout the commissioning lifecycle.

  • Review and assess contractor and vendor testing documentation and results.

  • Identify deficiencies, non-conformances and commissioning risks and drive them through to resolution.

  • Witness and manage electrical testing across LV, MV and HV systems.

  • Coordinate commissioning activities between electrical contractors, vendors and other project stakeholders.

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to commissioning engineers and site teams.

  • Ensure commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.

  • Support commissioning planning, project mobilisation and resource requirements.

  • Work directly with clients and project leadership teams to provide commissioning updates and technical advice.

  • Assist with developing commissioning methodologies and best-practice processes.

  • Contribute to future project bids, estimating and commissioning resource planning where required.

About You

You will be an experienced electrical commissioning professional with a strong technical understanding of testing and commissioning processes.

You should be comfortable taking ownership of commissioning activities and challenging contractors and vendors when testing results or methodologies do not meet the required standard.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Significant experience in electrical testing and commissioning.

  • Previous experience operating as a Lead, Senior or Principal Commissioning Engineer.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, testing methodologies and commissioning processes.

  • Experience reviewing and interpreting test results and commissioning documentation.

  • Experience managing electrical contractors, vendors and project stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of LV/MV/HV electrical systems.

  • The ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • A practical, hands-on approach to commissioning and problem solving.

  • The ability to step into projects quickly and make an immediate contribution.

Data centre experience is advantageous but not essential. Experience across other mission-critical, infrastructure, industrial, utilities, energy or major construction environments will also be considered.
