Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading data centre infrastructure business and play a key role in delivering efficient, scalable and technically robust mechanical systems for major data centre projects.

You will be responsible for leading mechanical engineering activities across large-scale hyperscale and colocation data centre developments, working closely with engineering, construction, commercial and operations teams to deliver high-quality projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities across the design and delivery of data centre projects.

  • Develop and review mechanical concepts, designs, specifications and technical solutions.

  • Design and review HVAC and cooling systems, including chilled water, DX, CRAH/CRAC and associated plant.

  • Provide technical input across concept, detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning.

  • Review consultant, contractor and vendor designs to ensure compliance with project requirements.

  • Develop and review equipment selections, technical specifications and engineering calculations.

  • Support design reviews, value engineering and technical workshops.

  • Identify opportunities for standardisation, optimisation and improved energy efficiency.

  • Work closely with consultants, contractors, vendors and internal project teams.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers.

  • Ensure mechanical designs comply with relevant codes, standards and client requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Significant mechanical engineering experience, ideally within data centres, mission-critical infrastructure or other highly critical environments.

  • Strong understanding of data centre cooling and HVAC systems.

  • Proven experience delivering mechanical designs from concept through detailed design.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, equipment selection and engineering calculations.

  • Experience working with engineering consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturers and/or end clients.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on hyperscale or colocation data centres.

  • Experience with chilled-water systems, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers and associated mechanical infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of data centre resilience, redundancy and availability requirements.

  • Experience with modular or prefabricated data centre solutions.

  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional accreditation.

  • Experience working across multiple regions or international data centre projects.

What You'll Get

  • Opportunity to work on some of the largest and most technically advanced data centre developments in the market.

  • Senior technical position with significant influence over mechanical engineering delivery.

  • Exposure to hyperscale customers and major digital infrastructure developments.

  • Opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle.

  • Strong technical and career development opportunities.
