Edison Smart is partnering with a growing technology business in the UAE to hire a Backend Engineer specialising in APIs and microservices.

You’ll join a high-performing engineering team building secure, scalable backend services and integration layers for a sophisticated financial technology platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership. You’ll be expected to take responsibility for what you build from initial design through to production.

Responsibilities

• Design and build secure, highly available APIs and backend services.
• Develop scalable microservices supporting complex financial and data workflows.
• Build integrations with external platforms, partners and third-party services.
• Work closely with DevOps and platform teams to improve deployment speed and reliability.
• Design services with resilience, scalability and performance in mind.
• Implement strong authentication and authorisation across APIs and services.
• Improve application observability, monitoring and logging.
• Support reliable deployments and zero-downtime upgrades.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve platform performance.
• Take ownership of services throughout their full lifecycle.

Technical Experience

• Strong backend engineering experience with Node.js, Java/Spring Boot or .NET Core.
• Strong understanding of microservices and distributed system architecture.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs, with exposure to GraphQL and/or gRPC advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of modern authentication and authorisation standards including OAuth2, OpenID Connect and JWT.
• Experience building cloud-native applications, ideally within Azure or a comparable cloud environment.
• Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with caching and high-performance data layers.
• Understanding of containerisation and Kubernetes-based environments.
• Experience implementing logging, monitoring, tracing and application observability.
• Understanding of CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.

You’ll be a backend engineer who cares about engineering quality, reliability and ownership. You should be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where engineers are expected to make technical decisions and remain accountable for their services in production.

Experience within fintech, banking, payments, lending or other high-volume transactional platforms would be highly advantageous.
