Commissioning Engineer – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Location: Strasbourg, France (preferred) or flexible across Europe
Contract: Initial 6-month contract (strong potential for extension)
Start Date: September 2026
The Opportunity
I'm supporting a leading European energy technology business that is expanding its project delivery team due to continued growth across Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects throughout Europe.
We're looking for experienced Commissioning Engineers to support the testing, commissioning and successful handover of utility-scale energy storage projects across Germany, France, Italy and Sweden.
This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge renewable energy projects while travelling across Europe, with all business travel and expenses covered.
Responsibilities
- Commission Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Carry out functional, operational and performance testing during project commissioning.
- Commission and validate battery systems, power conversion systems, MV/LV equipment, EMS, SCADA and auxiliary systems.
- Support site energisation and grid integration activities.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues during commissioning.
- Work closely with Project Managers, engineering teams, subcontractors and customers throughout project delivery.
- Complete commissioning documentation, site reports and final handover packs.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are completed safely and in accordance with project and quality standards.
Experience Required
- 3+ years' experience in commissioning, field service or project delivery within industrial electrical or automation environments.
- Previous experience commissioning Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly desirable.
- Candidates with experience in renewable energy, Solar PV, power conversion systems, transformers or grid infrastructure will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and automation.
- Experience working with Medium Voltage and Low Voltage equipment.
- Familiarity with SCADA, EMS and industrial communication networks is advantageous.
- Previous FAT, SAT and site commissioning experience.
- Comfortable travelling across Europe as projects require.
