Job Description

We are partnering with a venture-backed technology company building mission-critical software used by some of the world's largest organisations.

Following significant customer growth and commercial traction, the business is entering its next phase of scale and is seeking an engineering leader to help build the systems, teams, and operating model required for long-term growth.

This role reports directly to the founders and will take ownership of engineering execution, platform scalability, technical strategy, and organisational development.

Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering organisation.

  • Develop engineering managers and senior individual contributors.

  • Establish a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

  • Create clear career progression frameworks and performance standards.

Technology & Architecture

  • Guide technical decision-making across platform, infrastructure, data, and application layers.

  • Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable.

  • Balance rapid product delivery with long-term architectural health.

  • Drive technical excellence and engineering best practices.

Operational Excellence

  • Improve engineering predictability, quality, and delivery velocity.

  • Build processes that support scale without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

  • Establish clear operational metrics and accountability across teams.

  • Create a high-performing engineering organisation capable of supporting rapid business growth.

Product & Commercial Partnership

  • Partner closely with founders, product leadership, and go-to-market teams.

  • Translate customer requirements into scalable product capabilities.

  • Support strategic customer engagements when technical leadership is required.

  • Ensure engineering investments align with company objectives.

Team Building

  • Recruit exceptional engineering talent.

  • Build leadership capability throughout the organisation.

  • Develop succession plans and organisational structure to support future growth.

Ideal Background

  • Experience scaling engineering teams within high-growth technology companies.

  • Strong background in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, enterprise software, or platform engineering.

  • Proven ability to lead organisations through periods of rapid growth and increasing complexity.

  • Comfortable operating in founder-led environments where priorities evolve quickly.

  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to align technical decisions with business outcomes.
