Edison Smart is actively seeking an experienced BAS Controls Technician to join our client's growing team in the Boston area. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a leading building automation provider supporting commercial, healthcare, higher education, life sciences, and mission-critical facilities throughout the region.
The BAS Controls Technician will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in controls systems, HVAC equipment, and building operations, along with a customer-focused approach to service and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and service Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC control systems.
- Perform point-to-point checkout, startup, testing, and system verification activities.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, communication, and network-related controls issues.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and system optimization to improve building performance.
- Interpret engineering drawings, control schematics, sequences of operation, and technical documentation.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot controllers, sensors, actuators, and field devices.
- Support project teams during system installation, commissioning, and turnover.
- Train customers and end-users on system operation and functionality.
- Document service activities, deficiencies, and recommended corrective actions.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company and customer standards.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience working with Building Automation Systems, HVAC Controls, or related building technologies.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control sequences, and building operations.
- Experience commissioning and troubleshooting BAS systems in commercial or institutional facilities.
- Familiarity with BAS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Tridium Niagara, Distech, Alerton, or similar.
- Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and IP-based building automation networks.
- Ability to read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, and mechanical plans.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to customer sites throughout the Greater Boston area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Niagara Certification or manufacturer-specific controls certifications.
- Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, life sciences, laboratory, or data center environments.
- Electrical or HVAC technical training, associate degree, or equivalent field experience.
- Experience with retrofits, upgrades, and system integration projects.
