Job Description
Edison Smart is actively looking to hire an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client's Chicago team. This is a key role in leading mechanical engineering projects from concept through construction.
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will provide technical leadership for the design and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical systems on a diverse portfolio of projects. This role combines hands-on engineering, project leadership, client engagement, and team mentoring responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and coordination of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical building systems for a variety of project types.
- Manage mechanical engineering project deliverables from schematic design through construction administration.
- Perform engineering calculations, system sizing, equipment selection, and technical analysis.
- Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and ensure integration of mechanical systems within overall building design.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Previous experience working for an AEC or MEP Consultancy preferred.
- Strong experience designing HVAC systems for commercial and institutional buildings.
- Proficiency or working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD / Visio.
- Thorough knowledge of ASHRAE standards / codes.
