Software Lead Architect (Contract – 6 Months)

Edison Smart are seeking an experienced Software Lead Architect for an initial 6-month contract to help lead and shape our clients technology roadmap. As a key member of the Architecture function, you will be responsible for designing robust, scalable, and innovative lighting control and smart building solutions that integrate seamlessly with wider systems.

This role suits a senior architect with strong hands-on experience across software architecture, IoT platforms, system integration, and modern software engineering practices, who is comfortable guiding multidisciplinary teams and collaborating closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End IoT Architecture

    • Design and oversee secure, scalable, and maintainable software architectures

    • Cover device connectivity, edge computing, cloud integration, and data management

  • Technology Strategy

    • Define and influence the technology roadmap

    • Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and platforms aligned with modern industry standards

  • Security & Compliance

    • Implement best practices for cybersecurity, data privacy, and regulatory compliance within IoT ecosystems

  • Architecture Governance

    • Produce and maintain architecture documentation and decision records

    • Promote architectural best practices across engineering teams

  • Stakeholder Collaboration

    • Work closely with architects, product managers, and product owners

    • Translate technical decisions into clear business-aligned outcomes

  • Technical Leadership

    • Challenge existing thinking and help shape future-state architecture

    • Provide guidance and mentoring across engineering teams


Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Software Architect

  • Strong background in software engineering and system design

  • Expertise in IoT protocols (e.g. MQTT, CoAP, AMQP), device management, and edge computing

  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles relevant to IoT and connected systems

  • Experience with real-time data processing, analytics, and integration with data or ML platforms

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Fluent in English


Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with industrial IoT, smart devices, or smart building systems

  • Familiarity with firmware or embedded software development

  • Hands-on experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation

  • Knowledge of smart building ecosystems or adjacent industries
