Founding Engineer – Fintech / Neobank Platform

Location: Remote / Flexible, Global
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: Competitive salary + potential meaningful equity

The Opportunity

A well-established, profitable international business-services company is building a new financial technology platform designed for internationally operating businesses.

The platform will bring together business banking, payments, cards, foreign exchange and multi-currency financial infrastructure into a single experience, with the potential to expand into broader global money movement over time.

We are looking for a Founding Engineer to join at the earliest stage and take significant ownership of the technical foundation.

This is a true 0→1 engineering opportunity. You will work directly with the founders, shape the architecture, build core financial infrastructure and integrate with banks and financial technology providers.

You will be hands-on from day one and will have meaningful influence over both the product and the engineering direction.

What You’ll Build

You will take ownership across the platform, including:

• Customer onboarding and account-opening infrastructure

• KYC/KYB and compliance integrations

• Business accounts, balances and transaction history

• ACH, wire and international payment infrastructure

• Debit card and card-issuing integrations

• FX and multi-currency account capabilities

• Bank, BaaS and payment-provider integrations

• Payment state machines, retries, idempotency and webhook processing

• Ledger and reconciliation systems

• Internal operations and compliance tooling

• Permissions, transaction limits and risk controls

• Secure APIs and event-driven financial infrastructure

• Core backend services and data architecture

A key architectural principle will be provider independence.

The platform needs to be designed so that banks, payment providers and other infrastructure partners can be added, replaced or expanded without requiring the core product to be rebuilt.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an engineer who combines strong technical fundamentals with genuine product ownership.

You should have:

• Strong backend or full-stack engineering experience

• Experience building production systems from 0→1

• Strong database, data-modelling and API design fundamentals

• Experience with distributed systems, queues, events and asynchronous workflows

• A strong understanding of reliability, retries, idempotency and failure handling

• Experience designing systems where correctness and consistency matter

• The ability to make architectural decisions while remaining highly hands-on

• A pragmatic approach to moving quickly without compromising system integrity

• Comfort operating in an environment with significant ambiguity and ownership

• The ability to work directly with founders and translate business requirements into robust technical systems

Typically, we expect 4–10 years of engineering experience, although technical ability, ownership and relevant experience will matter considerably more than a specific number of years.

Fintech Experience

Direct experience in financial infrastructure is highly valuable.

We are particularly interested in engineers who have worked within:

• Neobanks

• Payments companies

• Fintech infrastructure

• Banking-as-a-Service

• Sponsor-bank environments

• Card issuing

• Cross-border payments

• FX platforms

• Treasury infrastructure

• Financial account infrastructure

• Stablecoin or digital-asset infrastructure

• Early-stage fintech companies

Relevant technical experience may include:

• Banking integrations

• Payment processing

• Ledgers and double-entry accounting

• Reconciliation

• Card issuing

• KYC/KYB

• Fraud and transaction monitoring

• Payment orchestration

• Cross-border payments

• FX

• Treasury

• Financial data infrastructure

Engineers who joined fintech businesses at an early stage, particularly as founding or early engineering hires, will be of particular interest.

The Profile

The ideal candidate is someone who can move between architecture, product and implementation without needing a large organization around them.

You are likely to thrive in this role if you:

• Have built significant systems from scratch

• Enjoy owning problems rather than individual tickets

• Think deeply about system design and edge cases

• Understand that financial infrastructure requires exceptional reliability

• Can make sensible trade-offs between speed and technical robustness

• Are comfortable working with external financial infrastructure providers

• Want meaningful influence over product and architecture

• Remain highly hands-on and enjoy writing production code

What This Role Is Not

This is not primarily a management position.

We are not looking for someone who:

• Wants to move away from hands-on engineering

• Has primarily operated as a people manager

• Is accustomed to owning only a narrow component within a large engineering organization

• Requires extensive process or infrastructure around them to execute

• Prefers ticket-based delivery over end-to-end product ownership

Why Join

This is an opportunity to establish the technical foundation of a financial platform from the ground up.

You will have direct access to the founders and significant influence over:

• Technical architecture

• Financial infrastructure

• Product development

• Engineering standards

• Provider strategy

• Security and reliability

• Future engineering team structure

The wider business is already established, profitable and has an existing customer acquisition engine. The financial platform therefore benefits from an established commercial foundation while still giving the founding engineer the opportunity to build a new product essentially from first principles.

For the right individual, there is a clear path toward substantial long-term technical leadership as the platform and engineering organization scale.

Compensation & Location

Competitive salary + potential meaningful equity.

The role is remote and globally flexible, with openness to exceptional engineering talent across international markets.

All applications and discussions will be treated with strict confidentiality.
