Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Principal BAS / EPMS Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of advanced Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) for hyperscale data center facilities.

This is a senior technical position requiring strong expertise in BAS and EPMS architecture, controls engineering, system integration, design documentation, and project delivery. The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader from concept and design through commissioning and final project handover.

The role is Remote within the United States, with approximately 50% travel to project sites, customer locations, and meetings as required. Travel locations are OH, VA, GA, AZ, MD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and design of complex BAS and EPMS solutions for mission-critical facilities.
  • Develop system architectures, control strategies, network architectures, sequences of operation, points lists, and functional specifications.
  • Design BAS/DDC and EPMS systems integrating HVAC, electrical distribution, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, meters, lighting, and other facility systems.
  • Develop and review control schematics, wiring diagrams, system architecture drawings, network diagrams, panel designs, and engineering documentation.
  • Define system I/O requirements, device selections, communication protocols, and control sequences.
  • Develop design standards, engineering guidelines, templates, and best practices for BAS and EPMS projects.
  • Lead technical design reviews with customers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal engineering teams.
  • Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership to engineers, designers, controls specialists, and technicians.
  • Support project estimating, proposals, scope development, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate BAS/EPMS designs with electrical, mechanical, architectural, networking, cybersecurity, and construction disciplines.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and project closeout.
  • Troubleshoot complex BAS, EPMS, networking, controls, and integration issues during project execution.
  • Support field teams during installation, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Evaluate existing systems and develop upgrade, modernization, and migration strategies.
  • Maintain awareness of industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices in building automation and power monitoring.
  • Act as a senior technical point of contact for customers and project stakeholders.

BAS Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer DDC/BAS architectures and control systems.
  • Develop sequences of operation for HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Integrate AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, VAV systems, CRAC/CRAH units, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Develop BAS points lists, graphics requirements, alarm strategies, trends, schedules, and control logic.
  • Design integration using BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, and other relevant protocols.
  • Support integration with enterprise management, analytics, and supervisory platforms.
  • Review BAS graphics and operator interfaces for functionality and usability.

EPMS Responsibilities

  • Develop EPMS architectures for critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Integrate electrical meters, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, ATS systems, PDUs, busway systems, and other electrical equipment.
  • Define monitoring, alarming, trending, reporting, and data-collection requirements.
  • Develop EPMS points lists and functional specifications.
  • Support integration with electrical equipment using Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, OPC, and vendor-specific protocols.
  • Support power monitoring and energy-management strategies.
  • Coordinate EPMS design with electrical engineers and equipment manufacturers.
  • Support commissioning and integrated systems testing of electrical monitoring systems.
